Itinerary

Embark on a captivating 6-hour journey from Akureyri to the heart of North Iceland’s natural wonders with this Goðafoss Waterfall & Mývatn Nature Baths Tour. This shore excursion offers a seamless blend of geological marvels and soothing geothermal experiences.

Your adventure commences at the Akureyri Cruise Terminal, where you’ll board a comfortable coach for a scenic drive along the picturesque Eyjafjörður fjord.
The first stop is the iconic Goðafoss Waterfall, renowned for its crescent-shaped cascade and historical significance. Legend has it that in the year 1000 AD, Iceland’s Lawspeaker, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, cast his pagan idols into the falls, marking Iceland’s conversion to Christianity.

Next, journey to Lake Mývatn, a region shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions approximately 2,300 years ago. The area is dotted with unique geological formations, including the famed pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar. These formations, created by steam explosions during lava flows, present an otherworldly landscape perfect for exploration and photography. The lake’s rich biodiversity also makes it a haven for birdwatchers.

The tour culminates at the Mývatn Nature Baths, often referred to as the “Blue Lagoon of the North.” Here, you can unwind in warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by stunning volcanic landscapes. The naturally heated pools and steam baths are reputed to have healing properties, offering a rejuvenating experience amidst breathtaking views.
Your adventure ends back in Akureyri, with a convenient drop-off at the cruise terminal.

TRAVELERS’ REVIEWS

We liked the Myvatn Nature Baths even better than Blue Lagoon. We visited the Baths, Godafoss, and other spots off of our cruise ship in Akureyri. The company was able to adjust so we could get back to our ship in time to meet an adjusted schedule. Thank goodness for the seven kilometer tunnel that allowed us to do all the visiting in the six hours we had available to us. Our day started with a visit to Godafoss, a spectacular waterfall. Smaller in height than Gollfoss, it was still really cool, with several overlooks. We then visited Myvatn Nature Baths. They were perfect. The temperature was great for standing around and talking. We had a sunny and warm day, but even if it was cold and raining, it still would have been nice. Our tour guide, Runar, was informative and entertaining. He gave us a ton of history, including personal history, that helped us understand Iceland. I highly recommend this tour.

Note: bring fly nets for lake part! Yes, there are flies in Iceland and we ended up using the nets a few days. It’s not a big deal. Pick up at cruise terminal was easy - make sure to get on right bus (some people didn’t and had to switch later). Bus was brand new and super nice. Tour guide Hannes was great and full of facts and stories. Waterfall awesome but the Mytvan baths were my entire family’s favorite of our entire trip. The mineral baths are amazing. It’s got people there but plenty of room for all and to get great pictures. A must do in our opinion. We also ate at their cafe - the ham and cheese croissant sandwiches were amazing. Yes this included lunch from a gas station. The sandwiches seemed fine and they have juice and chocolate (yum) but honestly they should remove this part in my opinion and just have people eat at the cafe at the baths. Another note - bring a plastic bag for your wet swimsuits for rest of day.
