我们的故事
Aurora Reykjavík was founded by us—Grétar Jónsson and Katarina Raker—two passionate aurora experts and award-winning photographers who have spent years chasing and capturing the Northern Lights across Iceland.
Through our work, we kept seeing the same challenge:
travelers came to Iceland hoping to experience the aurora, but many lacked the knowledge, timing, or conditions to truly make the most of it.
We knew it didn’t have to be that way.
So we set out to create a place where every Northern Lights journey could begin—with understanding, preparation, and inspiration.
Built from Experience, Not Theory
Everything at Aurora Reykjavík is based on real, hands-on experience.
For years, we have:
- Followed solar activity and weather patterns
- Photographed the aurora in all conditions
- Guided and advised visitors from around the world
Together with our dedicated team, we have transformed that knowledge into an immersive experience where visitors can:
- Learn how the Northern Lights actually work
- Understand when and where to see them
- Prepare for their own Northern Lights adventure
Because the best aurora experiences don’t happen by chance—they happen with the right knowledge.
Iceland’s Original Northern Lights Center
As Iceland’s first and only Northern Lights Center, Aurora Reykjavík is a truly local experience, built on:
- Scientific understanding
- Real field expertise
- A deep passion for the Arctic sky
Since opening over a decade ago, we have welcomed thousands of visitors from around the world and consistently ranked among Reykjavík’s top attractions.
What started as a passion project has grown into a place where the beauty, science, and wonder of the Northern Lights come to life—all year round.
More Than an Exhibition
Aurora Reykjavík is not just a museum—it is a starting point.
A place where you can:
- Experience the Northern Lights regardless of weather
- Learn how to photograph them
- Get expert guidance before heading out
- Make informed decisions about tours and conditions
Whether you explore the aurora outdoors or inside our center, your experience begins here.
Built for Travelers and Partners
From the beginning, we have also worked closely with:
- Tour operators
- Hotels and concierge teams
- Cruise lines and group organizers
Because we believe that when visitors understand the Northern Lights:
- Tours become more successful
- Expectations are realistic
- Experiences become truly unforgettable
Today, Aurora Reykjavík is a trusted starting point for Northern Lights experiences in Iceland—both for individual travelers and for industry partners.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple:
To help every visitor experience the Northern Lights in the best possible way.
Whether that happens:
- Under a clear Icelandic sky
- Through a camera lens
- Or inside our center
We want every guest to leave with a deeper understanding and lasting memory of this extraordinary natural phenomenon.
