WONDERS OF SNÆFELLSNESS
The journey begins by taking the 6 km long underwater tunnel – crossing under Hvalfjörður, the Whale bay fjord. Afterwards we travel along the peninsula with the seaside on our left and incredible mountainous scenery on our right. This area became famous due to the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, from 2013.
We stop at the unique Breidafjordur (Breiðafjörður) beach, also called ‘the golden beach’. This is one of the few beaches in Iceland that do not consist of black sand. Along the way we visit small towns and fishing villages and see spectacular bird cliffs by the sea at Dritvík. We will also see the fishing hamlets at Arnarstapi and Hellnar. On the northern side we take you to the picturesque church-shaped mountain Kirkjufell, accompanied by a wonderful little waterfall on the other side of the road. At Djúpalónssandur beach (not accessible in winter) we will allow those who feel up to it to try their strength with the Stones of Trial.
