We had a great time with Tomas as our guide. Within a few minutes of the tour starting we pulled over as Tomas could see the northern lights faintly - at this time they just looked like a slightly green cloud overhead. Fortunately at the next two places we stopped the lights were much more active and we were able to get some great photos. Tomas was great at taking photos himself with a professional camera and tripod setup, and was also able to help us adjust camera settings both on DSLRs and smartphone cameras to get the best shots possible (the photos attached here are from my phone, not the professional ones Tomas did). Tomas definitely seemed to know some great spots to see the lights clearly where there weren’t any other tour groups and we’re really pleased with the experience we had and the photos we got. We were also glad we went with this tour provider as it was a smaller minibus than some of the other tour companies we saw picking up from the hotel. Overall a great experience!

Honestly, it was one of the best experiences we had here in Iceland. The tour guide was extremely informative, funny, and made the most of our time. We got amazing photos and had wonderful experience out in the cold. Wish I could give 10 out of 5

Would definitely highly recommend this company to go and watch the northern lights with. We actually walked around to the visitor centre on the harbour front to go and book and we were given the option between a super jeep and small coach. We opted for the latter (as it was considerably cheaper and didn’t lessen the chances that night of seeing the lights). Prompt pick up from the bus stop and taken to a spot where the lights danced above us for a good 3 hours! Lots of amazing phot opportunities inc professional pictures too (which were promptly uploaded later that night)! Absolutely amazing experience and BG our guide was exceptional. Lovely warm hot chocolate too and plenty of blankets kept on the bus for added warmth. My only advice would be to wear as many layers as you physically can (inc socks) in March! Wouldn’t hesitate to book again though. Thank you ☺️

This was a real amazing tour. Aurora Viking has a stellar five star reputation and for good reason. The tour is organised flawlessly. The driver arrived super promptly. We had Tomas who was super cool! He was friendly and accommodating to everyone. He is not only experienced and knowledgeable giving clear explanation of what the aurora is and the Iceland tradition behind it, he also takes great and creative pictures of the northern lights with the professional camera that smartphones are not capable of. He also worked hard to find the best viewing spot even though the satellite readings were not too strong we managed to get some decent pics. The company also sends them to you via email days later. Yes it is a bit more costly compared to other providers but you have peace of mind as I saw some panicked tourists still waiting for their provider to show up. The hot chocolate was also thick and tasty not watered down. Please book with confidence as you are in good hands. But make sure you are early to your pick up as I was slightly late and saw the van drive off! But thankfully I called the head office and they related the message back to the driver who returned. All in all it was a worthwhile experience and I would highly recommend, even if icelandic weather is unpredictable to say the least!

FAQs

Where am I going to be picked up for my tour?
Pick- up takes place from from bus stops in the city center, hotels/guesthouses around Reykjavik.You can select your pick-up location during the booking process.
What time should I be ready for my tour pick-up?
Pick up starts 30 minutes before departure. It takes us around 30 minutes to pick up everybody, and we never know in advance if you are going to be the first pick up location or the last. We call for your patience and if there’s any kind of problem or delay we will let you know. For any last-minute communication, contact us at the phone number you will find on the top right corner of your ticket.
Will there be bathroom stops?
Every time we stop there’s going to be a toilet close to us. However, sometimes we will be driving long distances in between stops, so make sure you use the restroom every time you have the chance.
Where is the tour going?

The tour doesn’t follow a fixed route. Each night, your expert guide studies the weather and aurora forecasts to choose the best possible location outside Reykjavík (max ca 60km/ 40m), where the skies are darkest and clearest for Northern Lights viewing.

1) Warm Layers – Wearing warm clothes will ensure a comfortable experience. 2) Hat, Gloves & Scarf – Keep your hands, ears, and neck warm while enjoying the adventure. 3) Waterproof Jacket & Pants – The weather in Iceland is unpredictable, be ready for all conditions. 4) Sturdy Shoes/boots – As you’ll be travelling through the Icelandic wilderness. 5) Camera/ Phone – Capture stunning photos.
